The Great British Menu
Barlounge launched a new ‘British Classics’ menu and we needed to come up with the concept. And – love ’em or hate ’em – what could be more British than the great British Press?
And so the fairly simple concept of a newspaper themed campaign spiralled into a menu that was a 4 page broadsheet menu packed with a mixture of real and fake stories about ‘Great Britons’. From David Bowie eating peas, Michael Caine dabbling with broccoli, Formula 1 legend James Hunt gracing the sports page and Coventry’s finest, The Specials offering up the, erm… specials.
It also contained a mixture of fake adverts along with classic real ads from the 70’s and 80’s just to keep things authentic. QR codes were embedded in the newspaper that linked to online videos – allowing readers of a younger age the chance to discover Sir Clive Sinclair’s C5 vehicle, the classic 80’s Cinzona ads and re-live the time that QPR beat Manchester United 4-1 at Old Trafford thanks to a hat-trick from Lambeth lad Dennis Bailey. For no other reason than that the owner is a QPR fan… ?
